We are playing Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory at The Old Market in Hove on 17th November. Ticket link on gigs page.
The band played their first gig abroad, to a sell out 600 capacity audience in Lesquin near Lille, France, performing The Beatles ’White Album.’
The band also sold out the first show of 2019 Brighton Fringe Festival.
May 10th saw the band perform an evening of Bowie classics, including a recreation of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. The end of the festival The Psychedelic Love Orchestra performed Abbey Road and The 1969 Show. This show, first performed in 2013, recreated the classic Beatles album, along with a cavalcade of classic Rock and Pop. 2018 saw another busy year for the band, with new shows in “DecadeDance” showcasing the music of a different decade, and a new festival concert in a complete performance of “The Beatles ‘White Album’”. We are incredibly grateful to The Old Market for their support this year, allowing us to repeat the festival show in a special Christmas showcase.
Apart from the festival show, we have found a new Brighton Fringe Festival venue, with the opening of the Circle Arts Centre in Portslade. The venue were fabulous when we took Bowie: Golden Years there in October. We will be back there again inearly May for the first of tow Festival shows in 2019.
We have also been grateful for the support from the Brighton Open Air Theatre in Dyke Road Park. This venue was the scene of three concerts in 2018, and we will be back for two evenings in 2019, along with Sunday in the Park with Jazz, which is curated by Charlotte.
In 2017, both Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
We have been looking for a suitable venue to play our half new show, Sgt Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour and after much drama, the show went ahead at The Old Market in Hove. We are incredibly grateful for the venue in hosting the show at such short notice, and thank you to everyone who came on the night, the response was incredible.
We also performed Sgt Pepper at On Track for Summer Festival in July, we shows at Brighton Open Air Theatre in June, July and September, and International Beatle Week, which is held over the August Bank Holiday.
Back in Brighton, One Inch Badge have asked the Orchestra to present the classic festival show Pet Sounds vs Sgt. Pepper, and that is at Concord 2 on 16th September.
The new show, ‘Dearly Departed’, is a tribute to all the great musicians/song writers that have passed away in 2016. The set list is getting longer and longer, but please email any suggestions and we will try and play them!
2016 was a busy year for Brighton Beach Boys. We performed Pet Sounds/Sgt Pepper again after a hiatus at The Haunt, Brighton fringe Festival, and Pet Sounds to a packed out Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool as part of International Beatles week.
We are delighted that we’ve been asked back again in 2017 to perform Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band in August. More details to follow soon.
We played a great gig celebrating the music of David Bowie at Brighton Open Air Theatre in 2016 so we are marking the year anniversary of Bowie’s death on 7th January at The Brunswick , and again in February at The Ropetackle in Shoreham.
