The Brighton Beach Boys

In 2007, they performed two sell-out shows and won not only Brighton Festival Latest Award for Best Musical Event, but were also given an Angel Award by the Brighton Argus.- and trailing a string of great reviews and standing ovations - The Brighton Beach Boys will be joined for the Brighton Festival performance by a string quartet and extra woodwinds in the form of - the Psychedelic Love Orchestra.

The core band includes musicians who have worked with some amazing artists, including Oasis, Stomp and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Also members have performed at the Oscars and - in the case of actor band and member Ralph Brown - in films such as "Star Wars', "Alien 3' and "Withnail and I'. Ralph is now based in The USA so doesn’t perfomr regularly with the band anymore.

The Brighton Beach Boys were formed in late 2001 as a ten-piece tribute band playing the best of Brian Wilson's Music, from the earliest hits like "Surfin' USA' through to "Pet Sounds', the legendary "Smile' and beyond.

A love of this incredible music saw the band give up their precious time to grapple with some of the most difficult harmonies and arrangements ever written in popular music.

"Heart-stoppingly gorgeous ...the first half of the show covered Pet Sounds, and the Pyschedelic Love Orchestra's seven singers, keyboard players, five-strong string and brass sections and two percussionists did incredibly well to replicate the Grand Canyon-esque sonic depths of Brian Wilson's masterpiece - it helps that there was a vast amount of musical talent on stage and the performers were clearly having a ball themselves. Next up was Sgt. Pepper's, which not even The Beatles attempted live. Again, the performance was a triumph - perhaps even edging the first half." - The Argus.

In 2006, the band expanded into the fifteen-piece Psychedelic Love Orchestra, in order to tackle the two albums voted the greatest of all time, The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds' and The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.

This show was short-listed for the coveted Best Musical Event in that year's Brighton Festival.

One of the hightlights for the band has to be when Stevie Kalinich, lyric writer of three Beach Boys songs from the sixties, passed them a mobile phone just before they went on stage in Herne Bay, Kent in august 06. On the end of the line - Brian Wilson !! "I hope you're gonna do California Girls!" he joshed. Luckily, they were !! They exist to bring Brian's music to the world, sometimes in it's original context (hence the Pepper shows).
